Rwandan peacekeepers under United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) were today decorated with UN service medals.
The event was held at Juba Town, UNMISS Tomping Rwanbatt1 base camp.
The special representative of the UN Secretary General, Nicolas Harrison presided over the medal parade awarding ceremony.
He commended the Rwandan peacekeepers for the hard work, dedication and courage while providing security and protection to South Sudanese community.
‘‘You have undertaken your tasks with great effectiveness and pride by maintaining strict discipline and displaying zero tolerance of any form of abuse and sexual exploitation,’’ he said.
‘‘Please wear your medals with pride, since this is a symbol of the gratitude of the UN Secretary General and all South Sudanese people to your contingent for its selfless and professional service.’’ he added.
The Rwanbatt1 Commanding Officer, Lt Col Emmanuel Shyaka said that the medal decoration was an extraordinary motivation which will contribute to the troops renewed commitment in the conduct and accomplishment of duties as required by the UNMISS mandate.
UNMISS dignitaries including the Force Commander Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian attended the ceremony among others.
