Reports emerging from the Democratic Republic of Congo reveal that a doctor of Rwandan origin working with the Allied Democratic Front rebels has been neutralised in a sting operation.
“Doctor” Musa, of Rwandan origin, worked closely with Muhammad Luminsa, another notorious ADF commander. During the clash with the rebels, a machine gun and a walkie-talkie were seized by the joint forces, who continue their efforts to dismantle the remaining ADF networks,” according to the DRC Army.
The operation conducted by FARDC-UPDF allied forces was conducted on Monday, April 8, near Tokomeka, 30 km northwest of Kainama, as part of a joint intervention aimed at countering ADF activities in the region.
In the operation “Doctor” Musa, of Rwandan origin, and his ADF commander Muhammad Luminsa had resorted to the use of improvised explosive devices, but the joint forces’ explosive ordnance disposal teams managed these threats.
According to official figures, since November 2021, joint FARDC-UPDF operations have made it possible to eliminate more than 550 ADF combatants and capture more than 50 in the Beni territory, North Kivu.
The ADF, which retreated to Congolese territory in 1995, continues to sow terror in eastern Congo, particularly in Beni, Mambasa and Irumu, where it is responsible for murders, kidnappings, burning of houses, looting and recruitment of child soldiers.
