The Basketball Africa League (BAL) and Rwanda Development Board (RDB) convened a media briefing in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday, unveiling details about the highly anticipated 2024 BAL Combine.
RDB’s engagement is under Visit Rwanda brand, for Promoting Tourism and Sporting Events.
This event, touted as an elite scouting platform, serves as a prelude to the league’s fourth season, scheduled to tip-off on March 9, 2024, in Pretoria, South Africa.
The playoffs and finals will culminate in Kigali from May 24 to June 1, 2024.
The distinguished gathering included Rwanda’s Ambassador to Morocco, Umutoni Shakilla, and featured insights from BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall, emphasizing the crucial role of sports in driving economic development.
“In our continuous efforts to propel this project, we extend our gratitude to our partners, Rwanda Development Board and FlyRwandAir, with whom we solidified our collaboration last June,” Amadou Gallo Fall said.
“These strategic partnerships have been instrumental in achieving our shared objectives,” he added.
Ngarambe Rwego, the Director General of Sports Development in the Ministry of Sports, reflected on the transformative impact of their partnership since its inception.
He daid that, “From the beginning of our collaboration, we have witnessed an extraordinary evolution of basketball in Rwanda and across the African continent.”
He added that the youth’s growing interest in basketball has translated into increased job opportunities and significant infrastructure development in key sectors related to the sport.
“Rwanda is honored to stand alongside BAL as it establishes itself as a global sports hub,” Ngarambe stated.
The three-day Combine, a first of its kind on the continent, will draw 30 players and scouts from Africa, Europe, and the United States.
This event is poised to be a pivotal showcase for emerging talent, further solidifying basketball’s prominence across the African landscape and beyond.
