Rayon Sport To Battle Nigeria‘s Rivers United On Sunday

Rwandan table leader will battle Nigeria face Rivers United of Nigeria in the play-off round of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday, April 16 at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The game was initially set to be played in the weekend of 7-9 but was later rescheduled by the Confederation of Africa Football body CAF due to the commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The request to postpone was made by the Rwanda Football Federation.

The return leg will be played in Kigali on April 22.

Rayon is set to depart for Nigeria on Friday morning according sources from the club.

Rayon reached this stage after Malian side Onze Createurs was deemed ineligible following FIFA’s suspension of Mali last month.

In the preliminary round, the Blues defeated South Sudan’s Al Wau Salaam 6-0 on aggregate over two legs.

While, Rivers United dropped out of the Caf Champions League first round after suffering a defeat to Sudan’s El Merreikh 4-3 on aggregate after winning 3-0 at home and conceding 4-0 in Khartoum last month.

The winner between the two sides will progress to the group stages where every team is guaranteed at least $275,000.

Rayon  currently tops the local league summit with 55 points, 11 points ahead of arch rivals APR.
