Prime Minister Ngirente Visits Rukaragata Mining Site in Ngororero

Ngororero, Rwanda – This afternoon, Prime Minister Dr. Édouard Ngirente visited the Rukaragata mining site in Ngororero District, where he assessed ongoing mineral extraction activities. The site is operated by Power M, a company specializing in the extraction of high-value minerals, including cassiterite and coltan.

The visit underscores the Rwandan government’s commitment to responsible mining practices and the sector’s contribution to economic growth. Rwanda has positioned itself as a key player in the global supply chain for strategic minerals, particularly coltan, which is used in the production of electronic components such as capacitors for smartphones and laptops.

The Rukaragata mine, one of the significant extraction sites in the district, plays an important role in local employment and mineral exports. Power M, the company managing the site, is known for its efforts to improve mining efficiency while adhering to regulatory frameworks on environmental conservation and worker safety.

During his visit, Prime Minister Ngirente engaged with mine workers and company officials to discuss operational challenges and opportunities for growth in the sector. The Rwandan government has been implementing reforms aimed at improving transparency, increasing value addition, and ensuring sustainable mining practices across the country.

The mining sector remains a crucial pillar of Rwanda’s economy, generating revenue and employment while attracting foreign investment. The government continues to encourage the formalization of artisanal mining and the adoption of modern extraction techniques to maximize output and minimize environmental impact.

Dr. Ngirente’s visit to Rukaragata highlights the government’s ongoing support for the sector and its role in Rwanda’s broader economic development strategy.
