Battle hardened Kabila-led FRN rebels have put up a multilayered resistance against the Congolese troops as they push them into Uvira City of south Kivu.
By Monday morning the Congolese troops and their allies were dislodged by FRN from Luvungi.
FARDC command have decided to withdraw the Guépard unit, which had been positioned in Luvungi, in the Ruzizi plain.
Government coalition, troops continue to arrive and are concentrating on the hills overlooking Lubarika and Katogota, while the FRN positions continue to be reinforced as well.
Residents in these areas are fleeing towards Kamanyola, others towards Luvungi, fearing a repeat of the December 2025 scenario that led to the fall of Uvira.
According to our source, members of the FARDC Owls unit appeared demoralized and huddled together.
On Sunday (Nov 1) the Owls and Black Snakes units are said to have replaced the Cheetahs units, accused of treason. The latter were disarmed and replaced.
Meanwhile, during the night of November 2, Congolese and Burundian troops once again tried retaking Kuwamabuye and Gipimo.
However, their attempt to recapture these positions once again failed.

The capture of Luvungi could significantly alter the balance of power and facilitate an advance toward Sange, Kiliba, and Uvira, particularly if the forces present on the heights manage to support this push.
Meanwhile, several strategic positions on the mountains overlooking the Ruzizi plain are under the control of FRN Rebels, who are advancing toward Uvira, Baraka, Fizi, Misisi, Lulimba, and Kalemie.
