José Mourinho, coach of Turkish club Fenerbahçe, grabbed the face of Okan Buruk the coach of rival club Galatasaray on Wednesday evening after a 2-1 derby loss in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals.
At the final whistle, the Portuguese, whose players lost at home to arch-rivals Galatasaray, caught up with Okan Buruk, the opposing coach, before briefly squeezing his nose.
The Turkish coach immediately collapsed on the pitch, according to images broadcast by Turkish media.
The leaders of Fenerbahçe, currently second in the Turkish championship, have a deep hatred for Galatasaray, the leader and two-time defending champion.
The Portuguese, who arrived in Turkey last summer, was suspended for four matches and fined at the end of February for comments made after a league match against Galatasaray.
The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United manager accused the fourth official of the match – and through him all Turkish referees – of bias, and claimed that the Galatasaray bench had “jumped like monkeys” in reaction to a refereeing decision.
These statements earned him accusations of racism from Galatasaray, which he denies.
