President Paul Kagame on Monday met the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, at the G2O summit, where both discussed ways to further strengthen existing bilateral cooperation.
The two exchanged on topical issues related to cooperation in the sectors of climate change mitigation, infrastructure development and public and private investments.
Rwanda and Japan have had good cooperation through various projects in infrastructure development, agricultural development, social service improvement, and human resources development.
Bilateral relations date back to 1962.
President Kagame also met President Macky Sall of Senegal and AU Chairperson, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and AArgentina’s Alberto Fernandez for a dinner hosted by French President, Emmanuel Macron at G20 in Indonesia.
Macron had earlier made a trip on July 25 to 28 to three African countries; Cameroon, Benin, and Guinea-Bissau.
“The choice of three countries’ visit reflected both a desire for continuity in terms of substance, but also for deepening partnerships,” Elysee explained.
Meanwhile, President Kagame is set to join other leaders from the world’s big economies as the Chair of the African Union Agency and Government (NEPAD).
The two-day event that will run under the theme “Recover together, Recover Stronger” hosted under the flagship of the Indonesian G20 presidency is set to gather leaders from world’s richest countries whose economies represent 80 percent of global GDP and 75 percent of exports worldwide
