President Paul Kagame has expressed his admiration for Samoa’s beauty and the warmth of its people as he concluded his visit to the island nation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
In his statement, Kagame congratulated Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa on her new role as Chair in Office, stating, “I congratulate my sister Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa for her role as new Chair in Office, and thank her for leading this year’s CHOGM with wisdom and purpose.”
This year’s CHOGM, held in Apia, focused on the theme “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth.” The summit brought together leaders from across the Commonwealth to discuss pressing global challenges, including climate change, sustainable development, and public health.
Notable discussions included enhancing resilience in response to crises and fostering economic growth through collaboration among member states.
Reflecting on his tenure, Kagame remarked, “It has been an honor for Rwanda to serve as Chair in Office,” highlighting Rwanda’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development within the Commonwealth. Under his leadership, Rwanda emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among member nations, advocating for innovative solutions to shared challenges.
Kagame also expressed his eagerness to continue collaborating with Prime Minister Mata’afa, wishing her success in her new role. “I wish you all success, Prime Minister Mata’afa, and look forward to continuing to work together for the benefit of all members of the Commonwealth,” he stated.
Kagame’s tenure as Chair of the Commonwealth, which began in June 2021, was marked by a focus on sustainable development and community resilience. His leadership aimed to strengthen ties among member states while addressing the diverse needs of their populations.
As Rwanda hands over the Chairmanship, Kagame’s remarks refelct the nation’s commitment to fostering unity and collaboration within the Commonwealth, paving the way for future initiatives aimed at enhancing the collective progress of its member states.
