Kagame, Gavi Chief Strengthen Partnership to Expand Vaccine Access in Rwanda

President Paul Kagame on Tuesday afternoon received Dr. Sania Nishtar, Chief Executive Officer of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and her delegation at Urugwiro Village for high-level discussions centered on advancing Rwanda’s immunization agenda.

 

The meeting underscored the strong and ongoing partnership between Rwanda and Gavi, with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening health systems and ensuring equitable access to life-saving vaccines.

 

Discussions focused on scaling up immunization coverage, enhancing service delivery, and leveraging innovation to improve public health outcomes.

 

President Kagame highlighted Rwanda’s continued prioritization of preventive healthcare, noting that robust immunization programs remain a cornerstone of the country’s health strategy.

He emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration with global partners to maintain gains achieved over the years and to address emerging health challenges.

 

Dr. Nishtar commended Rwanda’s leadership in public health, particularly its success in achieving high vaccination rates and efficiently delivering vaccines even in hard-to-reach communities.

 

She reiterated Gavi’s commitment to supporting Rwanda in expanding access to essential vaccines and strengthening resilience within the healthcare system.

 

The engagement also explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas such as vaccine financing, supply chain systems, and community outreach initiatives aimed at increasing public confidence in immunization programs.

 

Rwanda has long been recognized as a model for effective vaccine delivery in Africa, with strong government leadership and strategic partnerships playing a critical role in improving health indicators.

 

The continued collaboration with Gavi is expected to further accelerate progress toward universal immunization coverage and better health outcomes for all citizens.
