Young Rwandan Diaspora Engage with RDF During Cultural Exchange Visit

A delegation of young Rwandans from the diaspora, currently in the country for a two-week cultural and educational exchange programme, today visited the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Headquarters in Kimihurura.

The group comprises youth from seven countries, all participating in efforts to reconnect with their roots and deepen their understanding of Rwanda’s post-genocide transformation.

The delegation was welcomed on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff by Brigadier General Ronald Rwivanga, RDF Spokesperson, who delivered an in-depth briefing on the RDF’s mission and operations.

The presentation covered the force’s critical role in safeguarding national security, contributing to global peacekeeping, and supporting Rwanda’s development agenda.

Brig Gen Rwivanga highlighted the RDF’s foundational values—discipline, patriotism, and service—stressing their centrality in building a resilient and professional military.

He also underscored the importance of civil-military cooperation as a pillar of Rwanda’s broader development strategy.

The youth participants actively engaged in a dynamic question-and-answer session, expressing keen interest in the RDF’s role in national reconstruction, regional peace efforts, and community outreach.

The visit offered them a firsthand perspective on the military’s contribution to Rwanda’s stability and progress since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The cultural exchange programme is part of broader efforts to strengthen connections between Rwanda and its diaspora youth, nurturing a generation that is informed, engaged, and proud of their heritage.
