US Hits Russia With More Sanctions

The United States has slapped Russia with a set of extra sanctions despite ongoing negotiations to end the special military operations in Ukraine.

According to the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) the sanctions have been slammed on Russian four individuals, three companies and one bulk carrier.

The sanctions are allegedly imposed on Russia under the pretext of combating terrorism, the OFAC said on its website.

According to posted data, sanctions were imposed on Russian nationals Yury Belyakov and Vyacheslav Vidanov, Sohrab Ghairat with the citizenship of Russia and Afghanistan, and Hushang Ghairat, a national of Afghanistan. Restrictions also covered Russian companies Edison, Kolibri Group and Sky Frame, and AM Theseus vessel.

In the meantime, the US Treasury excluded Karina Rotenberg, the spouse of Russian businessman Boris Rotenberg, from the sanction list. No details were given for the decision.

Meanwhile, European Union and Great Britain are considering imposing additional sanctions on Russia.

France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom pledged to “increase pressure on Russia” for the sake of “a just and lasting peace” in Ukraine.

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and the top diplomats delivered a joint statement following following Monday’s summit in Madrid.
