University of Rwanda Highlights Academic and Professional Leadership at ACOA 2025 in Kigali

The University of Rwanda (UR) is making a strong impression at the 8th Africa Congress of Accountants (ACOA 2025), currently underway at the Kigali Convention Centre.

As a key exhibitor and sponsor of the event, UR is showcasing its academic programs and strategic role in shaping the future of accountancy and higher education across the continent.

Held under the theme “Creating Value for Africa,” ACOA 2025 has attracted more than 2,000 professional accountants and delegates from over 65 countries.

The congress, organized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) in partnership with the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA), provides a premier platform for knowledge exchange and professional collaboration.

Speaking to Taarifa, UR’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ignatius Kabagambe, highlighted the university’s goals at the congress.

“This is a major opportunity for the University of Rwanda to engage with industry leaders, promote our programs, and form partnerships that support our mission of using education and innovation to tackle developmental challenges,” he said.

UR’s involvement aligns with its broader agenda of leveraging education to support Rwanda’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy.

The university continues to focus on academic excellence, applied research, and community engagement, with accountancy playing a central role in its contribution to national and regional development.

Its sponsorship and exhibition at ACOA 2025 reflect a deliberate strategy to expand partnerships and improve alignment between academic training and the needs of the accountancy profession.

By showcasing its capabilities, UR aims to attract potential collaborators and students, while contributing to discussions on how the profession can support Africa’s economic and societal progress.

This engagement also builds on UR’s growing regional and global collaborations.

Recent initiatives include a partnership with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, focusing on sustainable development, healthcare, and technology, as well as a two-week clinical trials workshop hosted in Kigali, reinforcing UR’s emphasis on research-led development.

Kabagambe stressed the importance of such forums for aligning education with real-world needs. “Through events like ACOA, we ensure our graduates are equipped to meet the evolving demands of the workforce and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s growth,” he noted.

UR’s role in ACOA 2025 also supports Rwanda’s ambition to be a leading destination for global conferences and professional gatherings. The presence of institutions like UR enhances the country’s ability to host high-level events that blend policy, practice, and academic insight.

As the congress continues, the University of Rwanda remains at the heart of the conversation—linking academia with industry, and reaffirming its commitment to creating long-term value through education, research, and strategic partnerships.
