Details emerging from Goma (North Kivu) , DRC indicate that a team of army officers from EAC member countries has kicked off an evaluation exercise on the mandate of the regional force currently deployed in DRC.
The assessment effectively began on Wednesday 5 July. The team begun by meeting the contingents of the troop contributing countries.
This technical evaluation team is led by Major General Sibomana Ignas, a national of Burundi who represents the Chief of Defense Chiefs of Staff of the member countries of the EAC. All member countries are represented.
According to an army report, the team reviewed work preparations for the M23 pre-cantonment site at Rumangabo.
It was one of the resolutions of the 21st of the last EAC Heads of State summit held in Bujumbura.
The offensive mandate of the regional force suffers from application. The force supposed to fight the M23 rebellion coexists with the latter in several towns in the territories of Rutshuru, Nyiragongo and Masisi.
The objective of this evaluation is to learn about the implementation of the mandate and the execution of the concept of operation of the force, according to the report of the army.
