Rwanda has opened its doors once again, extending a warm and compassionate welcome to 153 asylum seekers evacuated from Libya on Thursday night.
The diverse group comprises individuals from five different nationalities: 82 Sudanese, 56 Eritrean, 5 Somali, 9 Ethiopian, and one South Sudanese, each seeking refuge and solace.
Their arrival marks a significant step in Rwanda’s commitment to providing sanctuary to those fleeing turmoil and seeking safety.
Rwanda’s Ministry of Emergency Management said that a total of 2059 evacuees have been received in 16 batches, 68% of them were resettled to third countries: 381 in Canada, 255 in Sweden, 193 in Norway, 168 in USA, 141 in France, Finland 187, Netherlands 82 and 26 in Belgium.
The ministry said that Rwanda remains committed to offering refuge and assistance to people in need.
The newly arrived asylum seekers will find accommodation at the Gashora Transit Center, a haven for previous evacuees, fostering a sense of community and support during their stay.
