Rwanda Development Board Announces 20th Edition of Kwita Izina Set for October 18

The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has announced the date for the 20th edition of the highly anticipated Kwita Izina ceremony.

This iconic event, which has become a cornerstone of Rwanda’s conservation efforts, is scheduled to take place on October 18, 2024.

Kwita Izina, inspired by the traditional Rwandan naming ceremony for newborns, is an annual event that celebrates the birth of mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

The ceremony will be held at the foothills of the Volcanoes National Park, home to the majestic mountain gorillas that have become symbols of Rwanda’s commitment to wildlife conservation and eco-tourism.

The Kwita Izina ceremony not only honors the new gorilla infants but also raises awareness about the importance of conservation. Over the years, this event has drawn global attention, with conservationists, celebrities, and dignitaries from around the world participating in the celebration.

The ceremony has also been instrumental in promoting Rwanda as a leading destination for eco-tourism and has significantly contributed to the protection and preservation of the endangered mountain gorilla species.

RDB has invited the public to join in the festivities and to witness the naming of the newest members of Rwanda’s mountain gorilla families. The event is expected to be a grand celebration, filled with cultural performances, conservation messages, and a reaffirmation of Rwanda’s dedication to safeguarding its natural heritage.

As the countdown to October 18 begins, excitement is building for what promises to be a memorable and impactful Kwita Izina ceremony. Rwanda continues to lead the way in conservation, and this year’s event will undoubtedly reinforce the country’s status as a global conservation leader.
