Rwanda Issues New Directives to Combat Marburg Virus Threat

RwandAir has issued a statement urging all passengers traveling from Kigali International Airport to complete a health declaration form as part of heightened public health measures to combat the spread of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD).

This advisory comes in response to the recent outbreak and aims to ensure the safety and well-being of all travelers.

Effective immediately, all travelers departing from Rwanda are required to monitor themselves for symptoms associated with MVD, which include fever, severe headaches, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Passengers are encouraged to seek medical advice immediately if they experience any of these symptoms before heading to the airport.

In addition to self-monitoring, travelers should expect routine temperature checks conducted using Thermo-Scan cameras at the airport.

Hand sanitizing stations will also be readily available to promote hygiene and minimize the risk of transmission.

RwandAir has implemented a short symptom-screening questionnaire that passengers will need to complete with the assistance of staff from the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) upon exiting the country.

Alternatively, travelers can complete the health declaration form online, download the QR code, and present it upon arrival at the airport.

RwandAir emphasizes that these measures are crucial for safeguarding the health of passengers and the wider community. “Rwanda’s proven ability to manage public health challenges ensures a safe environment for all travelers. Our commitment to scientific and evidence-based responses, as demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic, remains a priority in safeguarding the well-being of everyone in Rwanda,” the airline stated.

The advisory also provides emergency contact information for further inquiries.

Passengers can reach the RBC’s hotline at 114 or email mvd@rbc.gov.rw for assistance regarding Marburg Virus Disease.

RwandAir thanks all travelers for their cooperation and commitment to public health as the nation continues its efforts to combat the spread of MVD.

The airline assures passengers that these precautionary measures are essential to maintaining a safe travel experience during this challenging time.
