Roman Starovoit, Russia’s Transport Minister has revealed that his country is currently holding negotiations to develop air traffic with African countries.
He made the remarks during an exclusive interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.
The head of the Ministry of Transport stated that Russia is discussing the development of air traffic with African countries, Cuba and “in other directions.”
According to him, the countries of the Middle East are also interested in the development of the Northern Sea Route.
“The People’s Republic of China is implementing several projects here,” Roman Starovoit specified.
Last year, Russia signed new air services agreements with Ethiopia and Tanzania on the sidelines of the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg..
The newly signed agreement aims to establish efficient and regular air transport services between Russia and Ethiopia, to boost trade and economic development.
Additionally, it includes enacting legislation regarding national carriers, recognition of airworthiness certificates, and cooperation in ensuring flight safety standards in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
The Eastern Economic Forum is a key international platform for establishing and strengthening ties within the Russian and global investment communities.
President of Russia Vladimir Puti also particpated in the forum September 3-6 on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University.
