Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned a deadly Russian missile strike that killed 18 civilians, including nine children, in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih on Friday, April 4.
According to Ukrainian authorities, 62 others, including 12 children, were injured when Russia launched an Iskander-M ballistic missile equipped with a cluster warhead at a residential neighborhood.
The Ukrainian government described the attack as a “barbaric” act of terror deliberately aimed at civilian targets, including apartment buildings, playgrounds, and public infrastructure. No military facilities were located in the vicinity, according to officials.
“This shelling shocked Ukraine and the world with its particular cruelty,” read the Foreign Ministry’s statement. “Russia’s goal was deliberate terror against civilians. This strike is another war crime and a grave violation of international humanitarian law.”
Ukrainian authorities accused Moscow of intentionally undermining international peace efforts, particularly those led by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“With this barbaric attack, Russia demonstrates its complete disregard for international peace efforts,” the statement added, suggesting that President Vladimir Putin remains committed to escalating the war until faced with more forceful international pressure.
Kyiv has formally notified all its international partners and key global organizations about the details of the attack, including the type of missile used and the scale of destruction.
Ukrainian diplomats are calling for urgent international condemnation and stronger action, including increased military support and enhanced air defense systems to protect Ukrainian civilians from continued attacks.
“We are grateful to those of our partners who have already spoken out, clearly condemned the actions of Russian criminals, and are providing concrete assistance,” the statement said.
Ukraine is also pushing for emergency meetings within international organizations to address the strike on Kryvyi Rih and the broader pattern of Russian attacks on residential areas throughout the country.
Kyiv reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing peace and justice, emphasizing that efforts are underway to document all Russian crimes with the aim of holding those responsible accountable in international courts.
