RRA Extends Deadline For Property Taxes

Taxpayers have been offered a time extension for paying property tax up to end of January 2023.

Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) said the deadline for paying taxes for businesses and institutions was extended mainly a result of the tax adjustments during the end-of-the-year festive season.

Ernest Kamanzi, the Deputy Commissioner for Regions and Decentralized Taxes at RRA confirmed the changes in paying property taxes for commercial and residential houses.

Meanwhile, said the taxes on residential houses rose to 0.25% in 2019, 0.5% in 2020, 0.75% in 2021, and 1% respectively in 2022.

Property tax for commercial houses increased to 0.2% in 2019, 0.3% in 2020, 0.4% in 2021, and 0.5% in 2022.

With new adjustments, tax on the immovable will be 1%.

There are at least one million taxpayers. There are 400,000 properties with unpaid Pay As You Earn and 36,000 unpaid Value Added Tax on rentals.
