Jeannot Ruhunga, Secretary General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), officially opened the bureau’s fifth general assembly, urging investigators to embrace technology as a critical tool in combating sophisticated crimes.
The event brought together senior RIB leaders and investigators from across the country to review the bureau’s performance and strategize for the future.
Themed “Professionalism and Transparency Through the Use of Technology,” the assembly focused on how RIB can uphold high standards of integrity while utilizing technological advancements to enhance investigations and service delivery.
Ruhunga emphasized that criminals are increasingly using technology to carry out complex crimes, making it crucial for investigators to stay ahead.
“Criminals are increasingly taking advantage of technology to commit more sophisticated crimes,” he told Taarifa.
“Therefore, our investigators must also embrace the opportunities provided by our country’s significant investment in technology to stay ahead of these criminals. This will enable us not only to prevent crimes but also, if they are committed, to detect them and compile strong cases using technology,” he said.
The assembly provided a platform for participants to discuss the bureau’s achievements, share experiences, and address challenges investigators face in their day-to-day operations.
Key topics included the importance of professionalism and the role of transparency in building public trust.
The meeting will conclude with the adoption of new strategies aimed at reinforcing professionalism and expanding the use of technology to advance RIB’s investigative capabilities.
