In his end-of-year address, President Paul Kagame has commended the Defense and Security Forces for their exceptional contributions to the nation and beyond, marking two historic milestones: 30 years since Rwanda’s liberation and 20 years of active participation in international peacekeeping operations.
The President praised the forces for positioning Rwanda as a “beacon of peace, stability, and progress in the region and beyond.” He highlighted their unwavering dedication to safeguarding national security while adapting to the dynamic challenges of global security.
He lauded the forces’ values of “patriotism, teamwork, discipline, and innovation,” emphasizing their pivotal role in ensuring Rwanda’s security and contributing to international peace. “Your professionalism in navigating complex security landscapes has set an example for others and reinforced Rwanda’s reputation on the global stage,” the President said.
Acknowledging the sacrifices made by service members and their families, the President paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty. “Their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting bereaved families and preserving the memory of fallen heroes.
The President urged the forces to remain vigilant and adaptable in addressing emerging threats while upholding core principles of integrity and accountability. He encouraged them to carry forward their legacy of excellence into the coming year.
“On behalf of the Rwandan people and government, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for a successful year ahead,” the President said.
