Pope Francis With Complex Clinical Situation Hospitalised

Catholic faithfuls and a large congregation will not see Pope Francis outside St. Peters Square on Wednesday as the pontiff has been hospitalised with a condition doctors describe as complex clinical.

Doctors described the Pope’s situation as complex clinical requiring immediate hospitalisation.

The Holy See Press Office said in a statement that the Pope was treated for a respiratory infection in hospital noting that the Pope’s General Audience, this week, is therefore cancelled.

“The results of the medical tests carried out over the past few days and today have shown a polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract, which has led to a further change in therapy.

“All tests carried out to date are indicative of a complex clinical picture that will require appropriate hospitalization.”
