Heavy rains early Monday have caused Nyabarongo river banks to burst leading to extensive flooding and submerging Ngororero-Muhanga highway rendering it impassable.
Road users have been cautioned against using this route and wait for floods to subside.
Several parts of Rwanda have been experiencing heavy rains for the past week.
According to the weather forecast by IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (March 26-April 2), “wetter than usual conditions are expected over southern and north-western Tanzania, western Rwanda, central Kenya, western Uganda, southern and western South Sudan, and central to south-western Ethiopia.”
However, ICPAC forecasts that drier than usual conditions are expected in central to eastern Tanzania, few places in Rwanda and Burundi, and south-eastern Uganda.
