Martin Fayulu challenges Félix Tshisekedi’s leadership in Goma campaign rally

Presidential candidate Martin Fayulu challenged the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi during a campaign rally held in the restive eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Fayulu, a prominent contender in the upcoming December 20 presidential election, used the platform in Goma to criticize the government’s imposition of a “state of siege.”

Speaking passionately before a crowd of supporters, Fayulu raised concerns about Tshisekedi’s governance, questioning the state of peace and security under his leadership.

He posed rhetorical questions to the audience, probing, “Do you have peace today? Do you have security today? Since Félix Tshisekedi has been here, is the situation better than before?”

These queries highlighted Fayulu’s doubts regarding the administration’s ability to bring stability to the region.

Standing at a podium in the city center, Fayulu condemned the “state of siege” declared in May 2021 in the North Kivu and Ituri provinces, both grappling with armed group violence.

Despite granting extensive powers to the military, this measure aimed at curbing insecurity failed to yield the desired outcomes.

Expressing his commitment to upholding the rule of law, Fayulu criticized what he perceived as the arbitrary imposition of the state of siege by President Tshisekedi.

“We’re going to establish the rule of law. We can’t have a state of siege when someone called Félix Tshisekedi wants it,” Fayulu declared, emphasizing the importance of governance based on legal principles.
