Kinshasa Government Orders Seizure Of Joseph Kabila’s Assets

Joseph Kabila, the former President of DRC is headed for a protracted legal battle with the Kinshasa regime following a move to confiscate his property.

According to a communique from the DRC’s Justice Ministry, the ministry has ordered FARDC Auditor General and the Attorney General to initiate legal proceedings against Kabila.

Kinshasa accuses the former leader of involvement with the AFC/M23 rebels that currently control both North and South Kivu provinces which also host vast mineral resources of the country.

Movement restrictions have been imposed on Kabila’s alleged collaborators in what the authorities describe as “a case of high treason against the nation.”

Kinshasa considers AFC/M23 movement as a terrorist organisation.

Furthermore the Interior Ministry has suspended the activities of the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), the party led by Joseph Kabila.

The Interior Ministry denounced the former president’s alleged “ambiguous attitude” toward the occupation of part of the national territory by M23/AFC, as well as his return to Goma, “a city under enemy control.”

The Ministry of the Interior has indicated that it intends to refer the matter to the prosecutor’s office at the Constitutional Court, and reminds political parties of their duty to preserve the national unity and territorial integrity of the DRC.

No immediate reaction was available from Joseph Kabila or the PPRD.
