The High Commercial Court in Nyamirambo has dismissed a request to include Union Stone Ltd’s Managing Director, Ting You, and his Chinese company, Beijing Zhongra Company, as parties to the ongoing case involving Chinese investor Huang Zhongkai.
The court ruled against the forced intervention, allowing the case to proceed with Union Stone Ltd as the sole defendant. Huang, who invested RWF 1.6 billion in a 2021 partnership with Union Stone, alleges unpaid profits and unauthorized use of his machinery after the partnership dissolved in April 2023.
Union Stone’s legal team had sought to shift liability onto Ting You and his company, arguing that they bore responsibility for key decisions. However, the court rejected this claim, maintaining focus on the merits of the case against Union Stone Ltd.
The hearing will resume on December 16, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., as the court examines the core issues of unpaid dividends and contractual violations. The ruling will have far-reaching implications for investor confidence and the enforcement of business agreements in Rwanda.
