FIFA President Gianni Infantino is expected to arrival in Rwanda on February 24, the first high-profile visit that will see him lay a foundation stone for the proposed Rwf3.85 billion hotel.
FIFA is funding 65% of the hotel to be completed in 18 months according to the local football association FERWAFA.
FERWAFA President Vincent Nzamwita says Infantino’s visit is a “great honour to our nation”. “We have to do everything possible to benefit from his visit in bid to further develop Rwandan football to a pleasing level,” Nzamwita said.
Meanwhile, the 4-star hotel is part of the FIFA development programme aimed at helping developing countries to establish infrastructure and facilities to boost the growth of the sport and generate income.
The hotel is expected to ease on the costs incurred by the Ministry of Sports and Culture (MINISPOC) on visiting national teams. Besides that, the facility will be used for commercial purposes to generate income for different footballing activities upon completion.
Meanwhile, Infantino will visit neighbouring Uganda thereafter.
