The Congolese armed forces FARDC and the M23 rebels are reportedly entangled in violent fighting since Monday in the western part of the locality of Kibumba, territory of Nyiragongo, province of North Kivu.
According to UN radio, this is the fourth clash of the day, after a brief lull observed Monday night.
In the area commonly called “Three Antennas”, in Virunga Park more precisely, heavy weapons fire rang out, several local sources were quoted by local media. This area remains the scene of clashes for around four days between the FARDC and local militias against the M23.
According to consistent sources, the M23 are trying to relentlessly overflow towards Virunga to attack the city of Goma, capital of North Kivu.
In the meantime, traffic is cut off on this axis. People of this section are forced to restrict their various daily activities. The inhabitants of Goma and Nyiragongo are paralyzed by this situation and are forced to stock up on basic necessities.
The M23, according to the same sources, intend to benefit from reinforcement in Kibumba and Buhumba, which also promises to be dangerous.
