Intense fighting between Congolese government troops and M23 rebels has spilled over into Nyiragongo according to reliable military sources.
Nyiragongo is between Kibumba and Rugari, about twenty kilometers from Goma, that the front line was fixed yesterday afternoon, after three days of intense fighting.
In the north of Rutshuru, little information is filtering on the second front which is around Mabenga. The only certainty is that the towns of Rutshuru-centre and Kiwanja are still under the control of the M23 rebels.
As the war rages on in this part of the country, former President Uhuru Kenyatta is in DRC trying to mobilse for a peaceful resolution of this conflict at has torn the eastern region apart.
Kenyatta, a facilitator appointed by the Community of East Africa (EAC) arrived in Kinshasa to consult political actors, civil society and community leaders from North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri as well as ambassadors.
However, After his meeting with Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament there seemed a long way to peace.
“We must set conditions, among other things, lay down our arms, leave the illegally occupied territories,” said President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso N’kodia.
