Marauding militias have killed 40 DRC police officers in a fierce attack, according to Francois Kalamba, the Spokesperson of Kasai Province Assembly.
Local leaders said the cops were on Friday killed by beheading in an ambush while travelling from Tshikapa to Kanaga town, capital of the Lulua Province.
The militias looted several weapons and vehicles during the incident, according to Reuters. Six officers survived the attack.
DRC has been characterized by insurgences in the countryside and sporadic mass riots in the capital, Kinshasa.
Meanwhile, security agencies have not yet been able to identify the attackers, but Kalamba has told media that it is the Nsapu militants responsible.
