City of Kigali Employees Celebrate International Workers’ Day, Honouring Outstanding Staff Contributions

In celebration of International Workers’ Day, employees of the City of Kigali convened to discuss strategies for enhancing work performance and accelerating the development of #OurKigali.

The Mayor of Kigali, Mr. Samuel Dusengiyumva, expressed gratitude to the staff for their unwavering dedication. He reminded them: “It is a privilege to serve the City of Kigali and its residents. We are the custodians of our city’s excellence. Therefore, when you notice something amiss, you should promptly address it. In doing so, you are fulfilling your responsibilities.”

During the event, Gilbert Niyikiza was recognized for his exemplary conduct and dedication.

He played a significant role in overseeing the construction of model housing units in Mpazi, located in Gitega Sector, Nyarugenge District.

The Mpazi Rehousing Model project, aimed at relocating residents from high-risk zones, has provided new homes to 688 families.

On Wednesday, 172 families received houses, including those who contributed their land for the development of homes, a market, and carpentry workshops.

Additionally, 34 families were relocated due to road construction activities in Gitega.

The allocation of these houses was based on property valuations conducted on their previous assets.

The project is set to expand to other areas of Kigali, including Nyabisindu and Nyagatovu in Gasabo District, as well as parts of Kicukiro District.

These initiatives underscore the city’s commitment to improving residents’ living conditions and promoting sustainable urban development.
