Eric Nkuba Shebandu, alias Malembe, described as a key figure in the political-military movement Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC) is currently in the hands of the Congolese authorities.
The Congolese military FARDC announced on Friday that its special services had successfully captured Mr Eric Nkuba.
General Sylvain Ekenge presented the Mr Nkuba to the press at the military intelligence headquarters, specifying that the arrest had been carried out by specialized services.
The AFC responded by claiming that Nkuba was captured on January 3, 2024 at the airport in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, while heading to a meeting.
According to the organization, he was then transferred to Kinshasa.
An official communication on this subject was sent by Corneille Nangaa, Coordinator of the AFC, to SAMIA SULUMU Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, on March 18, 2024.
The organization accuses, without presenting evidence, that the confessions obtained from Nkuba were the result of torture and aimed at terrorizing and arresting members of the opposition.
More seriously, the AFC is making accusations against Tanzania, accusing it of not only kidnapping Nkuba, but also of having committed acts of massacres and ethnic cleansing, again without providing concrete evidence.
According to congolese press actualite, “In his testimony, Eric Nkuba revealed several names as part of his contacts, including political figures such as Claudel Lubaya, Joseph Olenghankoy, and Patient Sayiba (former CEO of Ogefrem).”
The mention of these names in his statement sparked reactions, notably from Claudel Lubaya, honorary national deputy, who said he was deeply shocked to be associated with the AFC.
