Republic of Congo’s President Denis Sassou Nguesso has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to protecting the environment through tree planting.
The UN Decade on Afforestation and Reforestation 2027–2036 ceremony took place on November 6, 2026, in the Congo capital Brazzaville.
Several African leaders and representatives of international organizations participated in the ceremony.

In total, some 200,000 tree seedlings were planted at a site prepared for the occasion, marking the start of this decade dedicated to afforestation and reforestation.
President Ngueso noted that Congo has celebrated a tree-planting day for fourty years.
“The time has come for nations to translate their environmental commitments into concrete action, particularly by planting new trees and replacing those that have been cut down,” Ngueso Said.
Meanwhile, President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman, called on all nations to step up their efforts in tree planting and reforestation.
He emphasized that trees help absorb the gases responsible for global warming and mitigate the harmful effects of climate change on people and the environment.
