Pope Leo XIV, 71, announced Sunday that he will undergo surgery next week to remove a small nodule from his lung.
The pontiff told thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square following his traditional Angelus prayer.
He said doctors discovered the “localized” nodule at a “very early stage” and recommended its removal.
Details indicate that the Pope is booked for the surgery at Gemelli Hospital in Rome and will stay at the facility for over a week.
