Musanze District Mayor Nsengimana Claudien has urged traders and residents affected by the fire that ravaged GOICO Market on Saturday to remain resilient and resume their daily activities as authorities work to address the aftermath of the disaster.

The Mayor visited the market early Sunday morning, October 11, to comfort affected traders and residents following the devastating incident that destroyed merchandise worth millions of Rwandan francs.

Speaking to those gathered at the market, Nsengimana acknowledged the losses suffered by traders but encouraged them not to allow the tragedy to bring their daily activities to a standstill.

“Although these are difficult times and a lot has been lost, people must continue with their daily activities instead of spending the entire day looking at the market. Let the relevant authorities handle what remains,” the Mayor told residents.

He urged traders and other residents to focus on rebuilding their livelihoods while leaving the assessment of the damage and other necessary interventions to the responsible institutions.

The visit came as affected traders grapple with the loss of merchandise and the disruption of business activities following Saturday’s fire, which left significant damage at the market.

The incident has raised concerns over the livelihoods of traders whose businesses were affected, with the market serving as an important commercial hub for residents of Musanze and surrounding areas.

Authorities are expected to handle the necessary follow-up measures in the aftermath of the fire, while affected traders face the challenge of recovering from their losses and restoring their businesses.

The Mayor’s message emphasized resilience and the importance of continuing with daily responsibilities even as the community deals with the consequences of the disaster.
