AFC/M23 Rebels Controlling Kasopo, Masisi Surrounded

Taarifa Congo desk has established that the AFC/M23 rebels have held on to control of Kasopo in Masisi despite fierce fighting staged by Congolese troops and wazalendo militia.

Kasopo locality is considered strategic in this area. However, government forces and their allies control Kibanda, about two kilometers south of Kasopo.

To the east, Kafunsi, located near Kasopo, is also under the control of government forces.

Sources told Taarifa that Kasopo seems  now surrounded by loyalist forces, while the situation on the various axes remains difficult to verify independently.

Renewed fighting could break out at any moment in this part of Masisi territory.

As of Monday the security situation reportedly remains volatile in Nyamaboko 1st group, Osso Banyungu sector, in Masisi territory, North Kivu.
