The Rwanda Development Board RDB has extended the deadline for companies to file their annual returns and annual accounts to September 30, 2026, giving businesses an additional two months to comply with statutory requirements.
The Office of the Registrar General said the original deadline had been July 31, 2026, but was extended following requests from companies that were unable to complete their filings on time.
Under Rwanda’s Law No. 007/2021 of February 5, 2021 governing companies, as amended, registered companies are required to submit annual returns and annual accounts.
These filings are important because they help the government maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of active businesses, verify company compliance with legal obligations, and ensure transparency in corporate operations.
They also support regulatory oversight, help prevent fraud or misuse of company structures, and provide reliable data for economic planning and investment decisions.
RDB is now urging affected businesses to use the extension to complete their filings well before the new deadline rather than waiting until the final days.
“The Registrar General therefore encourages all affected companies to take advantage of this extension and submit their annual returns and annual accounts well before the revised deadline to ensure timely compliance and avoid last minute challenges,” the notice reads.
The filings are required to be submitted electronically through RDB’s online registration system.
RDB warned that companies that fail to meet the September 30 deadline will be subject to penalties provided for under the law.
Companies requiring technical assistance or clarification on the filing process have been advised to contact the Office of the Registrar General.
The extension provides temporary relief to businesses that missed the July deadline, but RDB has made clear that the underlying filing obligation remains unchanged and companies are expected to regularise their records before the new deadline.
