Rwanda will host one of Africa’s leading financial governance forums later this year, bringing together ministers, financial intelligence chiefs and international experts to strengthen regional efforts against money laundering, terrorism financing and other financial crimes.
The Government of Rwanda, through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN) and the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), in partnership with the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG), announced that Kigali will host the 2026 ESAAMLG Annual Meetings from August 31 to September 5.
Held under the theme, “From Technical Compliance to Demonstrable Outcome: Strengthening Effective AML/CFT/CPF Systems in Eastern and Southern Africa,” the meetings will focus on improving the effectiveness of anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing and counter-proliferation financing systems across the region.
The programme includes the 52nd Task Force of Senior Officials Meeting, the 26th Council of Ministers Meeting, the 9th Public-Private Sector Dialogue, technical working group sessions, bilateral engagements and side events with international partners.
The conference will bring together ministers, heads of Financial Intelligence Units from ESAAMLG’s 22 member states, and representatives from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the African Development Bank, COMESA, SADC, the United Kingdom, the United States and other international organisations and development partners.
Hosting the annual meetings reinforces Rwanda’s commitment to financial integrity and regional cooperation while further strengthening its reputation as one of Africa’s leading destinations for international conferences and business events.
