President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has temporarily appointed Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo to lead Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports, effectively replacing First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, who has been absent from public engagements for an extended period due to reported health challenges.

The appointment marks a significant development within Uganda’s education sector, as Janet Museveni has served as Minister of Education and Sports since 2016 while also carrying out her duties as the country’s First Lady. Her prolonged absence from official functions had fueled speculation about her health and the continuity of leadership within the ministry.

Dr. Muyingo, a seasoned education administrator and politician, has been entrusted with overseeing the ministry’s operations during this transitional period. His appointment is expected to ensure the uninterrupted implementation of government education policies and programs while Janet Museveni focuses on her recovery.

As a respected figure in Uganda’s education landscape, Muyingo brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as State Minister for Higher Education and played a key role in advancing educational reforms across the country.

While State House has not provided detailed information regarding Janet Museveni’s condition, sources indicate that the temporary appointment was made to maintain stability and effective management within one of the government’s most critical ministries.

The development underscores President Museveni’s commitment to ensuring continuity in public service delivery, particularly in the education sector, which remains central to Uganda’s national development agenda.

Government officials and education stakeholders are expected to work closely with Dr. Muyingo as he assumes responsibility for the ministry’s day-to-day affairs until Janet Museveni is able to resume her duties.
