An Ebola infected patient has escaped from a care centre in the Democratic Republic of Congo triggering panic as authorities struggle to locate the runaway patients.
According to Kinshasa authorities, at least 30 people with suspected or confirmed infections have escaped Ebola treatment or isolation facilities since June 4.
A limited availability of care, including nutritional support, is a chief complaint.
As of June 6, the DRC reported 515 confirmed cases and 91 deaths according to the National Institute of Public Health.
Meanwhile, there were 27 new confirmed infections and four deaths recorded during the previous 24 hours, all in Ituri province, the epicenter of the outbreak.
About 117 new suspected cases are being investigated.
The DRC government says it’s run-out of reagents needed to confirm new infections.
Health officials in DRC are struggling to trace exposed contacts and keep patients in care in the country’s conflict-hit east.
There are also 193 laboratory results awaiting analysis in North Kivu province.
Uganda government has also reported 19 confirmed cases, including two deaths.
