Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire, who is on an official visit to Russia, held high-level talks with her Russian counterpart, Mikhail Degtyarev, aimed at strengthening the existing cooperation agreement between the two countries in the field of sports.

The discussions focused on advancing sports development, enhancing the capacity of sports professionals, promoting knowledge and experience sharing, and expanding access to sports for all citizens.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to translating bilateral agreements into practical initiatives that can deliver tangible benefits to athletes, coaches, and sports institutions.

During the meeting, Minister Mukazayire stressed the importance of moving beyond signed agreements and ensuring their implementation on the ground.

“It is important that our cooperation does not remain on paper. We must focus on concrete actions that produce visible results and create real benefits for our people,” she said.

The visit reflects a growing commitment to international partnerships as a means of accelerating sports development and creating opportunities for athletes to compete and excel on the global stage.

What This Means

The strengthened cooperation with Russia is expected to provide valuable opportunities for training, technical support, and professional development for athletes, coaches, and sports administrators.

Through the exchange of expertise and best practices, the partnership could contribute to improving sports infrastructure, talent development programs, and overall competitiveness in international competitions.

The collaboration also aligns with broader efforts to make sports more accessible to communities, encouraging greater participation among young people and supporting the role of sports in social and economic development.

As both countries seek to deepen their cooperation, the focus will now shift toward implementing joint projects and initiatives that can transform commitments into measurable outcomes for the sports sector.
