Ugandan police on Monday towed away a Rolls-Royce vehicle belonging to Speaker of Parliament Anita Among from her residence in Kigo as investigators widened a probe into alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering.
According to local media reports, a Uganda Police low-bed carrier truck arrived at the property under tight security and loaded the luxury vehicle, registration number UA 426 EH, before transporting it to an undisclosed location.
Local press outlets reported that the operation was conducted under the supervision of officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), who have reportedly been leading inquiries linked to suspected unexplained wealth and financial crimes.
Witnesses quoted by Ugandan media described a heavy security deployment around the residence as investigators continued searches and documentation activities within the premises.
The seizure of the Rolls-Royce is being viewed as a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
Several local news platforms noted that authorities have yet to publicly disclose the full scope of the investigation or confirm whether criminal charges are imminent.
However, the operation has intensified public and political scrutiny surrounding wealth accumulation among senior public officials.
The case has generated widespread debate across Uganda, with anti-corruption advocates calling for transparency and due legal process as investigations continue.
Neither Anita Among nor her legal team had issued an official statement regarding the removal of the vehicle by the time of publication.
