The United Arab Emirates has signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), committing US$20 million to support urgent humanitarian and food assistance efforts in Sudan..
The grant, provided through the UAE Aid Agency, will help accelerate emergency food deliveries to communities severely affected by the ongoing conflict, with a particular focus on displaced populations and vulnerable groups facing acute food insecurity.
Assistance will also support Sudanese refugees in neighboring host countries, including Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, who reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to global humanitarian leadership and its responsibility to respond swiftly to famine risks and crisis situations.
The WFP welcomed the contribution, noting that the US$20 million grant will directly support life-saving operations and enable the organization to reach millions of people struggling with hunger and hardship.
This latest contribution forms part of the UAE’s long-standing humanitarian engagement in Sudan.
Between 2015 and 2025, the UAE provided US$4.24 billion in assistance to the country, including US$784 million in humanitarian aid since the outbreak of the civil war in 2023.
The UAE continues to call for coordinated international action and a humanitarian ceasefire to ensure safe access for aid delivery and the protection of civilians, supporting stability and peace for the Sudanese people.
