3000 Congolese in France Declare Themselves “Mad”

The highest number mad people in France could be Congolese according to new data released by the government of France.

“Nearly 3000 Congolese individuals have declared themselves mentally ill in order to stay in France,” government said.

According to statistics, the Democratic Republic of Congo represents the top position in this category of medical asylum seekers.

French law requires granting a residence permit to a foreigner suffering from a disease that cannot be treated in their country of origin.

Among these diseases, there is tuberculosis and certain mental illnesses.

According to statsita, mental illness is a significant concern in France, with rising rates, especially among youth, post-pandemic, with depression and anxiety being most common, affecting women more than men, and a notable burden of suicide.

Statistics show increasing symptoms, with reports of around 1 in 6 people affected, and over 30% of young people experiencing mental health issues, worsening due to factors like social media and climate concerns, despite increased awareness and some improvements in care access.
