Ugandan Colonel Killed As UPDF Clashes With CODECO Militiamen in DRC

A Ugandan colonel lost his life in violent clashes between the UPDF and CODECO militiamen in Djugu territory (Ituri Province).

According to field reports, violent clashes resumed on Wednesday morning following the recent deployment of Ugandan troops in the area.

Loud explosions have been heard throughout the village of Bethlehem, near Fataki.

Traffic on the RN27 remains temporarily suspended because these militiamen killed six people yesterday evening, including four children, at the Lodda displaced persons site,” said Charles Panza, head of the Young Patriots for Peace association in Djugu.

Since last weekend, fighting has been reported around Fataki Centre and its surrounding areas between CODECO militiamen and the Ugandan army, causing a massive displacement of the civilian population to safer areas.

The Ugandan army reported more than 200 militiamen killed in the fighting last week.
