Uganda has announced advanced plans to elevate five towns to city status effective next year.
Kabale which neighbours Rwanda will effectively assume City status a move that could trigger economic benefits to the boarder community.
“Five more cities—Moroto, Kabale, Entebbe, Nakasongola, and Wakiso—are set to be operational from July 1, 2025,” according to Finance Minister Matia Kasaija.
Minister Kasaija says that resources have been secured, bringing the total number of cities in Uganda to 16.
Other older cities include; Arua city, Gulu city,Jinja City,Mbarara City,Fort Portal City,Mbale City,Masaka City,Hoima City,Lira City.
Uganda with a population of 47.25 million is landlocked East Africa community member state with GDP per capita: 964.40 USD.Uganda 2024 population is estimated at 50,015,092 people at mid year.
