U.S. Senior Advisor Praises Rwanda’s Efforts in Reintegration of Former Combatants

U.S. Senior Advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos, and his delegation visited Rwanda’s Mutobo Demobilisation Centre today, where they observed the country’s approach to reintegrating ex-combatants.

The delegation was warmly received by Nyirahabineza Valérie, Chairperson of the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), alongside senior officials.

Boulos received a detailed briefing on Rwanda’s reintegration strategy, which provides support to ex-fighters, including those returning from the FDLR militia and other armed groups in the Eastern DRC.

The visit’s highlight was an emotional encounter with phase 74 of ex-FDLR combatants, where former fighters shared powerful testimonies of their transition from conflict to civilian life.

Praising Rwanda’s efforts, Boulos commended the government’s role in demobilization and rehabilitation, recognizing its commitment to peace and regional stability.

Nyirahabineza reaffirmed Rwanda’s steadfast dedication to reintegration, emphasizing that the country remains open to all individuals abandoning armed groups.

She also highlighted Rwanda’s leadership in promoting healing and reconciliation, stating that peace is possible when nations take proactive steps toward stability.

The visit witnessed Rwanda’s globally recognized approach to peacebuilding and reintegration, which continues to transform lives and contribute to security in the Great Lakes region.
