Tanzania on Sunday successfully tested its first-ever electric train, zooming from the commercial capital Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, a distance of 722 kilometers.
Video clips across social media have been widely shared showing the magnificent train running at a speed of 290km/h amidst cheering bystanders along the railway line.
In February, Tanzania Railways Corporation tested the electric train connecting Dar es Salaam to Morogoro- a distance of about 300 kilometers.
The successful electric train and infrastructure across the railway route have skyrocketed the popularity, rating of President Samia Suluhu since she became president.
The overall plan is to have the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) which has so far cost a massive US$2.2billion will be extended from Dar to Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and beyond, having received approval for AfDB funding in February.
