President Paul Kagame’s active participation at the 24th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, showcased Rwanda’s unwavering commitment to global cooperation, regional stability, and strategic economic partnerships.

The series of substantive and impactful meetings conducted by President Kagame underscore the nation’s leadership role in international affairs.

In a pivotal discussion with U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, President Kagame focused on fostering ongoing cooperation strategies aimed at ensuring sustainable peace in the region by addressing the root causes of conflicts.

Secretary Blinken commended President Kagame’s leadership, expressing appreciation for the work done, especially in recent months.

“Very much appreciate the work that’s been done, especially over the last couple of months, and your leadership in trying to find a positive, peaceful way forward,” he said.

The discussions explored collaborative efforts to foster peace, stability, and development in the region.

President Kagame’s diplomatic engagements extended to a comprehensive dialogue with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. The leaders delved into the pressing situation in Ukraine, emphasizing concerted efforts to resolve the conflict.

Zelensky acknowledged Rwanda’s active participation in the Peace Formula initiative, underscoring the significance of African states’ voices in international peace building.

“First-ever meeting with Rwandan President Kagame. I informed President Kagame of the Peace Formula. The voice of African states is important to putting it into action,” he added.

This marked a recognition of Rwanda’s emerging role as a contributor to global peace initiatives.

The diplomatic efforts transcended geopolitical boundaries as President Kagame engaged in a strategic conversation with U.S. Senator Mike Rounds.

Beyond bilateral cooperation, the discussions touched upon pressing global issues.

Senator Rounds expressed gratitude for President Kagame’s work and leadership in finding positive and peaceful ways forward. He added, “I look forward to discussing that with you today.” This acknowledgment solidified Rwanda’s standing as a key player in international affairs.

A notable highlight of President Kagame’s engagements was his meeting with Jakob Stausholm, CEO of Rio Tinto, a leading global mining group.

The discussion centered on potential partnerships and investment prospects in Rwanda’s burgeoning mining sector.

Kagame’s commitment to leveraging Africa’s labor force for global problem-solving resonated. He stated, “Africa has the labor force to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”

He noted that, “We cannot accept that another generation of African young people do not have the tools to reach their full potential. With Timbuktoo’s one-billion-dollar target, we can create more opportunities for Africa’s youth to put their talent and creativity to good use. Rwanda will commit 3 million dollars to this fund. The world is changing fast, and we must adapt.”

This reflects Rwanda’s proactive stance in harnessing its resources for sustainable development.

In a separate meeting with Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), President Kagame emphasized the critical role the IFC plays as a key partner in Rwanda’s economic transformation.

This collaboration signifies Rwanda’s commitment to fostering economic growth through strategic partnerships with international financial institutions.

President Kagame’s participation in the Welcoming Remarks and Special Address session, alongside global leaders such as Viola Amherd, Li Qiang, and Ursula von der Leyen, showcased Rwanda’s active role in shaping international dialogues.

This not only reinforced Rwanda’s position as a key player in global economic and political conversations but also highlighted the nation’s dedication to multilateral cooperation.
